Worm Castings Application and Use

How to Use and Properly Apply Worm Castings

Potted Plants/Seed Flats Potting Mix – Use 1 part castings to 3 parts good garden soil. Plant seed and water.

Vegetables /Annuals – Line planting holes and seed furrows liberally with earthworm castings. Set plants or seeds to proper depth and cover with garden soil. Water well. Surface dress monthly during growing season with ½ cup per plant or 1 cup per linear foot of planting row. Water as needed.

Perennials – Work ½ cup or 1” of castings into surface of soil above root zone early in spring, early summer and again early fall. Water as needed.

Planters, potted plants, hanging baskets – Work ½ cup or 1” of castings into surface of soil and water. Repeat every 2 months. Water as needed.

Shrubs, Berries, Roses, newly planted – Mix 1 part castings to 3 parts good garden soil. Transplant by spreading roots over mound of mixture in the hole. Fill remaining hole with good garden soil. Water well. Work 1” of castings into ground surface above root zone during following growing season in spring, summer, and fall. Water as needed.

Shrubs, Berries, Roses, established – Mix 4 cups of castings into soil to a depth of 2” to 3” below the surface early spring and early fall. Water as needed.

Lawns, new – Apply 10 pounds of castings per 100 sq. ft. Mix or scratch lightly into prepared seeding or sodding surface. Seed or sod per suppliers recommendations and water well.

Lawns, established – apply as top dressing using 10 pounds of castings per 100 sq. ft. Water as needed.

Compost Piles – Spread a thin layer of castings between each previous and new layer of material added to the pile. Maintain proper moisture and aeration in the pile.

In General – This all-natural plant food will not burn vegetation. Regular use will promote well developed root systems and vigorous plant growth.
